I had an accident today. I was turning off the end of my street and started to spin out. I corrected, but hit another patch of snow and suddenly the right way to turn way was very wrong. Completely lost control, went up over the curb and over a sign. I didn't drive over it- when I hit the curb the car reared up, hit the sign with bumper and fell on it.
I calmly waited for traffic and gently back up and turned into a driveway on the other side of the street to look at the damage (I had been partially in the road, didn't really want to stay there) The only mark was a thin green line on the bumper (as my mom would say later, In the battle of Tahoe vs the sign, the Tahoe always wins) I didn't have my phone with me so I left and drove to the diner where I was supposed to meet my parents for brunch. I just managed to explain it to my dad and turn around before I started to cry. I'm really glad no one saw me. But it's just one of those things I do- calm during, tiny freak out after and then I'm fine. Two block drive to the police station was all I needed.
We had to wait there a while. The whole thing was locked up- we talked to a lady through an intercom, and we didn't know this at the time but she sent an officer down to look at the damage. It was so weird though when he showed up because as much as I'd calmed down I was still worried about tickets and fines and OMGTHELAW. What happens? Smiles! Laughs! He knows my dad. Thank god I asked my dad to come with me. The guy was really nice about it. Apparently I didn't even need to report it. No fine, no ticket TYBJ!
For my first real accident I guess it went pretty well?
